Amy and the twins - update 3

Last night/early this morning Amy was experiencing frequent sharp pains in the lower abdomin - pains she hadn't experienced at any point before. After calling the Doc he wanted her to come in. We made it in around 1:00am - 4th trip, 3rd overnight. The cause of the pains became more apparent once Doc did a quick sonogram this morning. The babies were overly active last night and now we know why. The girl moved/flipped and is now slightly head down but still in a transverse position. At her Dr. appointment last week Doc mentioned that given their size and how far along she is in the pregnancy babies normally do not flip around. We're not normal so we're not all that suprised :-).

The OB nurses told us they were predicting an increase in patients because of the change in weather. The weather wasn't really what brought us in but it was good to come in and make sure everything was still ok. At this point Amy is ready to get these babies out. She's really done well and I suspect will continue to beat the odds.

Anyway, we're home now and Amy is sleeping. She has another appointment on Monday. The babies also have a scheduled NST on Monday.

Henry is still doing good....been looking forward to us getting home so he can go outside and hit the baseball around and help me mow the yard.

Amy and the twins - update 2

Contractions are not as bad as they were at the peek yesterday but they are still present and irregular. The plan now is to get her something to eat and go home. She has to come back in tomorrow (every other day now) to have NST's (non stress test) done - on the babies. Doc would like to push this out to 37 weeks if possible to give the babies a little bit more time for their lungs to develop.

Amy and the twins....

Amy made it to 36 weeks today (37 weeks is considered full term for twins). We are very thankful to get this far but it has definately not been a walk in the park. We are currently in the hospital for the 3rd time (2nd overnight) in the last few weeks. The babies are very active and getting bigger, faster. As of last Thursday Baby A (boy) measured 5.8lbs and Baby B (girl) measured 6.2lbs. Baby B is breach/transverse and Baby A is head down for the most part. A C-section will be the delivery method given their position. Contractions are being watched closely - they have eased up a bit over the course of the day. The current plan now is to monitor the contractions and be prepared for delivery at any time. Dr. Nyi is ok to go forward with delivery here in Pontiac - now that she's officially past 36 weeks. There is still a chance that the babies may have to be life flighted over to Peoria but we will not know that until they are born. We worry about that (having Amy here and me in Peoria with the babies) but at this point - whatever it takes and whatever is best.

Henry is hanging in there. He really is tolerating everything very well. He had his 3 year appointment last week. He grew 6 1/2 inches in the last year and doing well - eventhough we had him in the ER over the weekend for severe stomach pains but he's doing just fine now.
